Is AVB the same as Dante?
The two main players on today’s stage are AVB and Dante. Developed in Australia, Dante is a proprietary IP of Audinate, which licenses Dante technology to various manufacturers. Audio Video Bridging (AVB) is open-standard and developed by IEEE, the same organization that developed the Ethernet.

What is AVB output?
AVB Output objects provide support for explicit AVB audio reception from IEEE 1722.1 compatible third-party devices. AVB blocks can be allocated to a Tesira SERVER, SERVER IO and TesiraFORTÉ device, Audio Expanders (EX-MOD, EX-AEC, EX-IN, EX-OUT, EX-IO and Lab. gruppen Amplifier) do not support AVB blocks.

Is AVB compatible with Dante?
Neither AES67 nor AVB are competitive equivalents to Dante. AES67 and AVB are both a collection of standards, which are not actual implementations. Dante is a commercially supported solution, and more than just a standard.

The Hono AVB Controller is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) application intended for use with AudioScience products combined with other 3rd party AVB devices. The controller provides configuration and routing of IEEE 1722 audio stream formats using the IEEE 1722.1 AVDECC protocol.
Is AVB dead?
So is AVB dead? Absolutely not. Dante is dominating the live sound market, but AVB/TSN is a well engineered solution that has found a home in portions of the live sound market (most notably Meyer Sound, Avid, Pivitech and MOTU).
