Boxing, a self-defense sport, has more and more interested in getting into the ring in this canton of San Carlos, but the lack of support from the authorities and economic resources make it impossible for this discipline to grow at the desired rate.

A concrete example of this reality is the Aguas Zarcas Community Boxing School, which organizes a “Family Party” for the next one sunday july 31 with the purpose of raising funds to buy equipment and continue their training.

Radith Barrantes, coordinator of this Boxing School and promoter of the community activity, specified that the work they do is ad honorem, without a monthly budget to invest in the purchase of gloves and other accessories for the practice of this contact sport.

“The few gloves we have are almost worn out by constant training. The idea of us with this activity is to show the community what we do, promote the development of this discipline and invest what we manage to collect in the purchase of gloves”, Barrantes Alvarez said.

Padded gloves to soften the blows during boxing matches are urgently needed at the Aguas Zarcas Community School. The cost of each pair is around ₡50,000. Photo for illustrative purposes.

The “Family Party” It will take place in the Plaza de Deportes de Montecristo de Aguas Zarcas, where they will sell food, inflatables and paintball, among other activities.

“We are going to have inflatables for the kids, face painting, an obstacle course rally and other joint activities with the Sports Subcommittee. We want it to be a family activity that allows us to strengthen the Boxing School”, Barrantes added.
