Andy Cruz insists on getting a shot at professional boxing. A few days after his failed escape attempt, the boxer will seek to disassociate himself from Cuban sports.
According to the Cuban journalist Francys Romero, an MLB specialist, the 26-year-old fighter requested his withdrawal from the Cuban sport.
The Cuban boxer and Olympic champion of #Tokyo2020 Andy Cruz requested his withdrawal from the sport yesterday at the Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum in Havana, according to various sources.
Cruz, 26, was caught leaving the country illegally 10 days ago in Moa, Holguín.

After the request, the two-time Olympic champion must carry out a procedure where he will be left out of the Cuban government’s records and his passport will be unlocked. This process is submitted to all athletes of national interest who decline to represent the country.
One of the big problems Cruz faces is that this request has become a constant in recent years for Cuban sports, according to Romero.
