Arnold Allen: “Leon Edwards is the best British MMA fighter”

Arnold Allen is currently one of the highest ranked featherweights and at UFC London he put on the best performance of his career, beating Dan Hooker in just 2 minutes and 33 seconds.

Allen wasn’t the only Brit to turn up that night, as Tom Aspinall, Paddy Pimblett, Molly McCann, Paul Craig, Jack Shore and Muhammad Mokaev posted impressive wins in the event, with Aspinall in particular attracting attention for his sensational first submission over Alexander Volkov.

But despite the series of great performances, Allen says that the best current British MMA fighter was not competing that night.

“No. I think Leon Edwards is the best. Having trained with him, he is the best. That man is on another level. We discussed some good rounds. He helped me a lot with tips for the fight and things like that. For me, he is number one.”

While Allen and Aspinall are currently ranked No. 6 in the UFC divisional rankings, Edwards is the No. 3 ranked welterweight.

Edwards is believed to be the next to fight for the title against current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. If the fight goes ahead as expected, he would be the first British fighter to compete for a UFC belt since Michael Bisping won the middleweight title at UFC 199.
