Lto fight between Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen is clear for Red Bull. The squire’s adviser, Helmut Marko highlighted that his two drivers have a chance of being world champions, but that the battle could have an advantage for the Dutch.

In an interview for RLT News, Helmut recognized the capacity and quality that Checo Prez has, especially after the victory in Monaco, but he accepted that if the Mexican wants to fight for the title he has to beat Verstappen first.

“He can become world champion. But then he has to have the speed and clearly beat Max on the track.”

The adviser spoke of controversy that occurred in the Spanish Grand Prix, when Checo had to let Max pass to take the crown, and reaffirmed that there is no order to favor one or another pilot, but that due to the results delivered Max is number 1 at Red Bull.

You can become world champion. But then he has to have the speed and clearly beat Max on the track.

“Usually we don’t have team orders or number 1 politics. If you compare the results, that’s four wins for Max, one win for Prez. He is the most constant. In terms of absolute speed, Max is the one, who dominates here.”

Helmut accepted that Max has had trouble adjusting to the new RB18, which cost him the result in Monaco.

Pérez has improved and thanks to the technical change he gets along much better with the car

“He had trouble in only one corner during the four practice sessions, which placed him behind Prez. The handling may not be to your liking yet. He wants a car that has absolute grip on the front axle. This is now being worked on.”

On dominating Formula 1 this year, Marko asserted that, with both Checo Pérez and Max Verstappen, the team has ample chances of winning as long as work problems can be improved.

“The chances are good because we have two strong drivers. Pérez has improved and thanks to the technical change he gets along much better with the car. We still have to work on reliability. Three failures is too many.”
