Boxing once again returned to Club Deportivo Bilbao with a very interesting evening at the fronton of the Alameda Rekalde club. Jokin ‘Hunter’ García from Bilbao prevailed again in the super lightweight category by winning by technical KO in the first round against Asturian Davi Alonso.

This promising boxer from Indautxu has already won five out of five as a professional. An attractive fight was also held in which Santiago ‘Pantera’ Vanegas outpointed Venezuelan Héctor Betancourt in the super bantamweight.

Both Jokin García and Santiago Vanegas were facing a key day for their future in boxing. The same as Bilbao’s Naiara Olmedo who also beat Cara McLaughlin in ‘Depor’. Both Vanegas and Olmedo can be contenders with this victory for the Spanish Championship.

Boxing Cathedral in Bilbao

The Club Deportivo Bilbao, due to its history, is considered one of the cathedrals of sixteen-string sport in the Basque Country. The Club’s boxing commission is aware of this legacy and relaunches this noble sport in our environment whenever possible with the collaboration of non-profit boxing events.

Boxing, the Noble Art, has always been well received at the Bilbao Sports Club.

The Alameda Rekalde Club promotes sport in general and boxing is one of its specialities, rescuing the leading role it has always had in this Club. In the previous evenings held at the ‘Depor’ fronton, the number of spectators approached a thousand, discovering the pull that boxing has in our city.

The history of Club Deportivo Bilbao is also written through a pair of gloves and a ring. This Club has had great boxers, some champions of Spain, such as Méndez ‘The Black Spider’, Alejandro Arteche, Agustín Argote, ‘Bolita’, Mariano Echevarría, Benito Canal and José Mari Madrazo. Nor can we forget Ángel Gómez, ‘Gomito’.
