For two days, boxers from eight regions of our country will fight in the Elite Amateur National Championship of this discipline that will take place in Coquimbo.
Who does not remember those boxing evenings of yesteryear… waiting for the fights of Martín Vargas, Bernardo “Chifeo” Mendoza or the Argentine Carlos Monzón.
Those were other times, where Chilean boxers shone and connected with the public that eagerly awaited their fights.
Today, the activity is basically concentrated in Santiago, although in the region they want to keep alive this tradition of fighting with their fists, that is why in Ovalle and Coquimbo, there are academies that refuse to close their doors and on the contrary are concerned with promoting young people in the development of this sport that has supporters and detractors.
Andes Pedrini is one of those teachers who fights to keep the sport of fists alive. He has taken his students to fight Santiago in important amateur boxing events, but this time, the boys will be local in the National Elite Amateur Boxing that will take place on July 30 and 31, in the port.
“There will be 45 fighters from different clubs, representing 8 cities in our country, who will arrive in Coquimbo to be part of the National,” Pedrini tells us, finalizing the details so that everything goes well at the Sindempart Artistic Shed, where it will take place. out the activity.
The athletes who are registered will compete in different categories, in a federated contest that has the supervision of Abatam Coquimbo.
