Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez has retorted to Floyd Mayweather, who accused the unified lightweight champion of “dodging” David benavidez.
In an interview earlier this month, Mayweather had claimed that Alvarez he is intentionally avoiding any development that could lead to a fight with Benavidez. However, Canelo has explained why he doesn’t see himself fighting against Jermall Charlo or Benavidez.
“I don’t avoid anyone. But what does that guy (Benavidez) bring me? Nothing, “Canelo said.” Name a champion that (Benavidez and Charlo) fought before. How much? I really do not care. The haters will always be the haters“.
“What I know is that I beat the number one fighter at 168. It was Callum Smith. Then Billy Joe Saunders, second. Then third. [Planta Caleb]. So, I beat the best in 168. They were all undefeated. I beat all the best in 168, and now there are people who say that you should fight this, as always.
“This always happens. But I beat the best champion in 168. Then they say, ‘he’s scared of him’ or ‘he’s scared of that guy’. I’m not afraid of anything. ”The 31-year-old is preparing to move to cruiserweight to face WBC champion Ilunga Makabu next.
