Boxing: IOC takes command of boxing again for Paris 2024

La Executive Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) I decided that the boxing qualifying competitions for the 2024 Paris Olympics

La Executive Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) I decided that the qualifying competitions for the 2024 Paris Olympics “shall not be carried out under the authority of the International Boxing Federation (AIBA)“. They will be the second Games, after those of Tokyo, in which the IOC organizes the boxing competitions without the International Federation.

“The decision focuses on athletes and the nneed to give certainty to Olympic competitions and classifications for Paris 2024, and it comes after the continuous and very worrying IBA issuessuch as its governance and its system of arbitration and judges,” explains the IOC.

“The IOC administration will exceptionally finalize alternative models for the organization of these boxing competitions, in close collaboration with the Organizing Committee of Paris 2024 and the representatives of the boxers,” he adds.

In addition, the IOC notes that “the inclusion or not of boxing in the sports program of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028 will be discussed later”.

In response, the IBA said it was “deeply disappointed” with the decision, adding that he would take time to “carefully consider his next steps.”
