Félix Albrecht (66) and Silvia Lescano (41) raised a ring in the courtyard of their house and started a municipal school with free classes for all audiences.
On their own initiative, the ex-boxing couple decided a little over six years ago to give the central space to this project in the Cocomarola neighborhood of the city of Posadas and thus fulfill the dream of opening the first free school in the area.
Time was an indispensable ally and today it is home to almost 40 children and adults from all over the province who are looking for a new opportunity.
“I was honored with the nomination. It’s another achievement for my team, ”said Albrecht, a boxer from the golden age and former Malvinas fighter. “Boxing is part of my family and everyone who comes out is treated as such, we help them where we can.”
“I want to get the kids back on track so they don’t get into drugs and alcohol. I grew up on the street as a shoe shiner and a quill, we were a little hungry but we were healthy, today times have changed; boxing gives you a new life, “added the former member of the Argentine team.
“Tomorrow they can make a living with this, they can even be boxing technicians to open another school and carry on the legacy.”
“This sport gives you a discipline that takes you away from the streets and laziness. You have to take care of yourself to get into the ring and not have a bad time, that is an achievement for those who progress from below that forms you as an adult “, he remarked.
Currently the ‘Félix Albrecht’ school has the support of the municipality and is open to all public. In fact, it includes girls from Fátima, Villa Bonita, the Palomar neighborhood and from all over the interior of the province, such as San Javier. The classes are free and for all ages from 10 years old; you just have to wear mouthwash and bandages.
“When we went home at first the training was done outdoors until little by little I was roofing it. I made a shed, we closed a little and there I lifted the ring from the floor.
“Today everything is organized, I have two bags and rubber bands … the space is small but everyone enters,” closed Félix, who is not alone. His right hand is his life partner: Silvia “Cañón” Lescano. The missionary is a national boxing referee and joins the afternoon classes as a coach. The house is located in the Cocomarola Este neighborhood, in front of Provincial School No. 871.
