Missionary Cristian Ayala became the new super welterweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) last Saturday night by dethroning his previous holder, the Buenos Aires Nicolás Andino, by knockout in the second round of a fight held in the Sports Palace of Mar del Plata.
‘El Azteca’ (22 years old) sent ‘El Elegant’ (26) to the canvas in the first round and in the second he sentenced him with a right cross to the face.
Ayala improved his record to seven won fights (3 KOs), a contrast and a draw; while Andino, eighth in the Argentine welterweight ranking, was left with a record of 16 wins (2 KOs), three losses and a draw.
This fight was the central of the evening in Mar del Plata after the middle South American champion, the local Lucas Bastida, canceled his with Abel Adriel from Buenos Aires after testing positive for Covid-19.
