Five Dominican boxers secured bronze medals at the XlX held in Valledupar, Colombia.

Euri Cedeño, Miguelina Hernández, Estefani Almanzar, Rodrigo Marte and Alexy De la Cruz won their fight on Sunday, to now aspire to gold and silver.

Cedeño was the first Dominican to secure the medal after knocking out Peruvian Luís Ángel Mina in the first round in the 75 Kg division.

Likewise, Hernández made history in these Bolivarian Games with her victory against the Peruvian Lucy Rosario Valdivia in the category of 51kg. Almanzar was another Dominican woman who delivered by beating Guatemalan Leilancy Noshbet Reyes 5-0.

De la Cruz unanimously beat Ecuadorian Jhancarlo Anchico Mina by winning 5-0 on the judges’ cards in the 57-63 kilos category.

Marte also stood out in the ring, to triumph in his fight against the Panamanian Moisés Rodríguez in the 52.5 kg.

A single Dominican was defeated in his combat

In the case of Mario Lavegar he did not have the same luck as his share when he fell 3-2 against the Venezuelan Miguel Antonio Ramos in a close fight in the 48-52 kilos division.

Similarly, boxers Cristian Pinales (81kg) and Maria Moronta(60 kg) will seek to secure medals for the delegation, which is in fifth position with 15 medals; four gold, six silver and five bronze.

Rubén García, president of the Dominican Amateur Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa), was excited by the great performance of the boxing delegation in this event.

“These guys won’t let us look bad. They have quality and are well trained”, he affirmed after the opening of the Games in Valledupar.
