ANDHe ‘Rumble in the Jungle’, perhaps the most mediatic fight in history, the one between the undefeated heavyweight champion George Foreman and the aspiring and former monarch Muhammad Ali, is still generating money. In this case, due to the sale of the original belt that ‘The Greatest’ beat the titan ‘Big George’ thanks to his ‘rope a dope’ strategy.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) champion title has been acquired by Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, for 6.18 million dollars. Irsay is a noted collector of boxing ‘relics’ and announced the purchase of the belt on Twitter, saying he is “proud” to own it now.

Irsay himself is also raising the possibility of making a sample of his collection, which also highlights the boots that Ali used in the ‘Thrilla in Manila’, the third of his fights against Joe Frazier.

After beating Foreman, Ali remained the WBC champion until losing to Leon Spinks in 1978.
