CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- The Mexican fighter, Brandon Moreno entered the Top 10 of the UFC ranking in 2021. The flyweight champion was located in the tenth position of the list, among the best pound for pound, of the promoter of mixed martial arts. The Tijuana native won the belt this year, after submitting Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo last June.

The ‘Assassin Baby’ closed with a record of 19 wins, five losses and two draws, to top the ranking of its division. The Mexican has another fight against Figueiredo scheduled for next January 22, where they will complete the trilogy at the UFC 270 event.

Moreno became the first Mexican-born fighter to win a UFC belt.

Along with Brandon, two other Mexican fighters finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions: Yair Rodríguez and Irene Aldana. In addition, Alexa Grasso stayed in 11th place in the women’s flyweight.

Yair Rodríguez finished 2021 in third place in featherweights. The ‘Pantera’ returned to the Octagon after a two-year absence, to fight for five rounds against belt contender Max Holloway in November. The Mexican lost by unanimous decision, but remains a candidate for the title belonging to Alexander Volkanovski.

While Irene Aldana is in third place in the ranking in women’s bantamweight. The Mexican knocked out Yana Kunistkaya this year in July, during the UFC 264 undercard. The Sinaloan will have to wait for her opportunity for the belt, as former champion Amanda Nunes asked Julianna Peña for revenge.

The UFC designated the Nigerian Kamaru usman as the best pound for pound of 2021. The welterweight champion defended his title three times this year, winning two fights by knockout and one by unanimous decision.
