The mayor of the Brazilian municipality of Borba, located in the state of Amazonas, Simão Peixoto, starred in a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight with former councilor Erineu Alves da Silva, with whom he had a bitter dispute.

The fight took place last Sunday, December 12, after Alves, alias “Mirico”, called the municipal “scoundrel” and “scoundrel”, who used his social networks to challenge his political rival to physical combat to settle their differences.

The dispute had to do with criticism of the 45-year-old former councilor to the management made by the mayor of the Balneario de Lira, one of the main tourist attractions in the area.

“If you really want to fight, we are ready to fight. I have always been a winner ”, said the mayor, 39 years old, and summoned his opponent to carry out the fight in a school gymnasium, which was fitted out with the installation of an octagonal ring, typical of professional MMA fights.

MMA combines different martial arts and combat sports such as jiu jistu, judo, kickboxing, and boxing. Peixoto is known for his love of this sport and has even appeared in spots with his mitts on.

The match was broadcast live on streaming and Peixoto was the winner, who In the first minutes of the fight he received a combination of kicks from “Mirico”, which brought him to the mat.

However, the mayor overcame and was declared the winner of the fight, He had three rounds, as is often the case in this kind of sport.

Those attending the fight donated food to be channeled to people in need. For now, the state health authorities announced that they will ask the municipality for an explanation, for congregating several people in a closed space and without wearing a mask, challenging the social distancing measures imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
