The decision announced this Friday by the Federation bosnian (NSBIH) to play a friendly match against Russia in Saint Petersburg in November has drawn criticism in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
In a statement, the NSBIH specifies that this match will be played on November 19, on the eve of the opening of the World Cup in Qatar, that it will not be played by Bosnia, not classified, nor by the Russian team, excluded from all international competitions by the FIFA and UEFA after the invasion of Ukraine from February 24.
“It’s not a good decision. When the team starts to get good results, there is always something wrong,” said one of the Bosnian stars, Miralem Pjanic (107 selections), who left Barcelona this week.
“I have no words, the federation knows my position,” he added, quoted by sportske.ba.
For her part, the mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karic, condemned the decision and threatened to end the cooperation of the Bosnian capital with the NSBIH if the party remains.
“We strongly condemn the federation’s decision to play a friendly match against Russia. Sarajevo was a city besieged by an aggressor for a long time,” added Karic, referring to the Serbian siege during the Bosnian war (1992-1995), in full breakup of the former Yugoslavia.
