Cuban boxing will step into the ring to expand successes in the world

Belgrade, Oct 30.- Olympic King Andy Cruz and rookie Yoenlis Hernández will step into the ring today in search of expanding Cuba’s successes in the World Championship with action here until November 6.

Both Antillean boxers will try to add their second joys in the event, in the case of Cruz he will exchange blows against the Brazilian Nicollas de Jesús at 63.5 kilograms; meanwhile, Yoenlis will face the Turkish Birol Aygun in the 75 kilos.

Both the light welterweight Cruz and the medium Hernández celebrated successes in the premiere by 5-0 against the Panamanian Jonathan Miniel and the Brazilian Wanderlei Pereira, respectively.

The two Cuban boxers will fight at the Stark Arena facility in pursuit of reaching the round of 16 and raising the national victories to 10 against two defeats.

On the previous date, the two-time Olympic champion Julio César la Cruz (92 kg) defeated the Bulgarian Rodoslav Pantaleev 5-0 on the way to conquering his fifth belt in the world, after the crowns in the versions of Baku 2011, Almaty 2013 , Doha 2015 and Hamburg 2017.

So far, the Caribbean squad keeps six boxers in action with two victories also for Osvel Caballero (57 kg) and Kevin Brown (67 kg) and one on the account of Henrich Ruiz (86 kg); while, Lázaro Álvarez (60 kg) and Roniel Iglesias (71 kg) contributed the setbacks.

According to the program of the event, the preliminary fights will take place until November 2, with a semifinal day on the 4th and two dates for the dispute of the crowns on Friday the 5th and Saturday the 6th.

Cuba finished in fourth place (1-1-1) in the version of Yekaterinburg 2019 and now in the Belgrade fair it seeks to expand the historical harvest of 77 gold medals, 35 subtitles and 26 bronze medals.
