LONDON, Sept 25 (Reuters) – Dominican Republic light heavyweight Lenin Castillo was taken to hospital on Saturday after a brutal second-round knockout by Britain’s Callum Smith at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The light heavyweight fight ended abruptly when Castillo fell to the canvas after a powerful right hand from Smith.
Castillo received immediate attention from several members of the medical staff in the ring, before being transported on a stretcher.
Fight promoter Eddie Hearn took to Twitter to say Castillo was “responsive and on his way to the hospital.”
The fight was on the undercard prior to the world heavyweight showdown between British IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO champion Anthony Joshua and Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk.
