F1: Carlos Sainz withdraws from the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix after crashing on the first lap

The Spanish (), who entered the race as second in the World Championship Formula One (), retired this Sunday, after having an accident —without major physical consequences— when touching at the start with the Australian Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren), in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prixthe fourth of the contest, which is held at the Imola circuit (Italy).

Sainz, 27 years old and recently renewed until 2024 with the ‘Scuderia’, touched Ricciardo’s McLaren in the cool and rainy Imola, where he took the start with an intermediate tire, and went off the track, leaving his car ‘stuck ‘ in the gravel.

The accident caused the safety car to enter the track, which has just been withdrawn, and the race -scheduled for 63 laps and 309 kilometers- was carried out with the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in first position; and his Mexican teammate Sergio “Checo” Pérez in the second.
