Baku, January 10, AZERTAC

Max will attempt to add a virtual win to the Formula 1 world championship he won in Abu Dhabi in December.

The 24-year-old Dutch driver will take on some of the biggest names in the world of motorsports and esports in the event on January 15-16.

Reigning Spanish IndyCar champion Álex Palou is on the field alongside double Indianapolis 500 winner and former driver Juan Pablo Montoya, Dutchman Jarno Opmeer, two-time F1 esports champion, and a women’s team of the W Series.

Double Formula 1 world champion and two-time Le Mans winner Fernando Alonso is the non-driver captain of the Alpine esports team.

Red Bull’s Verstappen, who won the F1 title with a controversial last lap overtaking of Mercedes’ seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, entered the virtual endurance race in 2020 with McLaren’s Lando Norris.

They were leading for Team Redline when a frozen screen caused a collision with eventual winners Rebellion-Williams Esports. Verstappen’s pro teammate this time around is Swedish IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist.
