The Finn burst into the final part of the standings to lead a Mercedes double that leaves Hamilton in second place. Verstappen could not improve the W12 despite starting as a favorite and settled for a third just behind Mercedes. Sainz was able to scratch a sixth end and Alonso (16th), fell in Q1 after an Alpine error.
