The goal of racing Sprint are an exhibition in which all the cars travel a length of at least 100 kilometers without having to go to the pits to change tires.

In Formula 1 of this 2022 season the Sprint races have been presented only onceduring the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, at the Imola circuiton Saturday April 23, when Max Verstappen beat Charles Leclerc and added 8 points to his account in the standings.

This Saturday, July 9, the will be presented at the Red Bull Ring Circuit, corresponding to the Austrian Grand Prix. ‘Checo’ Pérez will start in 13th place in tomorrow’s sprint race, because he lost the fourth qualifying position due to a penalty, since he had a lap canceled in the second round (Q2), for leaving the track layout.

What is a Sprint race in F1?

This type of race is eye-catching for the public, since It takes place on Saturday and gives the starting order of the race on Sunday.

So Q1, Q1, Q2 and Q3 are held on Friday and work to give the order of the Sprint race on Saturday. Though the fastest time will get pole position, without the result of Saturday’s Sprint intervening.

Points awarded in F1 Sprint races

In this 2022 season, changed the format so that the teams were interested in Sprint races. In 2021 only the top three classified earned points. Meanwhile, the Sprint race comes before free practice 2 and 3.

So the delivery of points has increased according to the positions in which the single-seaters arrive.

The first eight drivers to finish the Sprint race will have the following points: 1st place: 8 points; 2nd place: 7 points; 3rd place: 6 points; 4th place: 5 points; 5th place: 4 points; 6th place: 3 points; 7th place: 2 points; 8th place: 1 point.

How many Sprint races are left this season?

It remains with the same number of Sprint races as last season.
