A football referee was killed in the middle of the field of play, after admonishing a player in a match.
José Arnoldo Amaya, 63, was directing an amateur match on a field in The Saviorwhen one of the players attacked him to blows for pointing out a foul against him.

After the attack, the whistler was transferred to a local hospital where hours later he lost his life due to injuries, authorities reported.
Amaya belonged to the National Association of Soccer Referees of El Salvador (AAFES) and had 20 years of experience. He directed tournaments in neighborhoods, schools and in an amateur soccer league.

The aggressor, identified as Juan Manuel Cruz, was arrested two days after the attack recorded on June 12. “He hit the victim and injured him until he died,” authorities reported.
The subject is accused of the crime of homicide and is related to a local gang.
