Formula 1: There was no agreement for the Safety Car

Following the unsympathetic end to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza last Sunday, teams met with the FIA to prevent races from ending in Safety Cars.

The teams have not agreed on a plan to prevent races from ending with Safety Cars.

The debate was put back on the table at the Formula 1 summit this Monday.

Team bosses like Christian Horner were against endings like this. However, Andreas Seidl, the boss of McLaren, recalled that this issue was already discussed after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the teams did not find a solution.

“After what happened last year in Abu Dhabi, there was a lot of talk between the FIA, Formula 1 and all the teams involved to see how the rules could be changed to ensure that the races never ended behind the safety car,” he said. Seidl in statements to Autosport.

“But even though the FIA and Formula 1 put pressure on all of us to find solutions, it was up to us the teams and we could not agree on a solution that it is also good in terms of sporting results. So I guess we just have to accept that, unfortunately, situations like the one in Monza can happen,” he concluded.
