NEW YORK (AP) — The PGA and LPGA tours have canceled their October tournaments in Shanghai due to restrictions that remain in place to curb the COVID-19 pandemic in China.

The HSBC Champions tournament, part of the World Golf circuit, has been canceled for the third year in a row. It was to be staged at the Sheshan International field between October 27 and 30.

The women’s tour had scheduled a tournament between October 13 and 16 at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club. The LPGA has not been to China since 2019.

Both decisions were made together with the China Golf Association, which is responsible for tournaments in the country.

The announcement made on Wednesday came just as residents in districts of Shanghai and Beijing had to undergo new coronavirus tests after the discovery of new cases.
