Moto3: Pedro Acosta, pole and crash on the last lap

The brand new Moto3 world champion, Pedro Acosta, took the last pole position of the category (the first for the young man from Mazarrón) prior to the Grand Prix of the Valencian Community.

“I was missing pole position and we got it today. I did not care much about achieving it, although it was one of the objectives of this weekend. I am very happy that we made it. In the race there are a few drivers who will be very strong, but we also have a good performance. It’s going to be an exciting race ”, explained the“ Tiburón de Mazarrón ”on Saturday after qualifying.

Halfway through the Moto3 race Pedro Acosta was second in a large group of nine riders (many of them Spanish) fighting for victory.

With five laps to go, Sergio García led ahead of Pedro, Jaume Masià, Xavi Artigas and Dennis Foggia, with the Italian surrounded by Spaniards.

“I don’t really understand where (Foggia) was going, who later criticizes a driver who threw two (referring to Darryn Binder who knocked Foggia and Sergio García down at the Algarve GP). I do not understand but hey, they are races. I had to control the group and that’s why I turned backwards “, commented the” Tiburon de Mazarrón “after the Grand Prix. In the end Foggia was given a three-second penalty for irresponsible driving.

Jorge Martín, second in Valencia and rookie of the year in MotoGP

The Madrilenian had achieved pole position on Saturday and entered the MotoGP race aspiring to everything, but stomach problems the night before the test compromised his performance. “Martinator” spent a good part of the night up and vomiting.

During the race, at the twentieth step through the finish line Jorge Martín was leading, having started from pole position, chased by Pecco Bagnaia, Alex Rins and Joan Mir, two Ducati against two Suzuki. The power of the Italian machine versus the handling of the Japanese bike. These four were already more than a second behind Fabio Quartararo, who was shooting in fifth place.

With 12 laps to go, Pecco Bagnaia took the lead, with Jorge Martín in his wake and Joan Mir seven tenths behind the first. The Suzuki rider also had to control Jack Miller who seemed to get closer at times. On the following lap, Pecco set a 1.31.0, which was the fastest lap up to that point, on a track that the friendly driver says has never gone well …

Pecco Bagnaia achieved the fourth victory of the year, ahead of Jorge Martín and Jack Miller. A fantastic triplet for Ducati, on a track where red bikes rarely shine too brightly. The other brands will have to work hard this winter if they want to stop Borgo Panigale’s missiles. Fourth place went to Joan Mir who, once again, took the livers out of the Suzuki without making any mistakes.

“We had a great race, I was vomiting all night, I didn’t know if I was going to be able to run. I have been fasting since yesterday. In the last lap I gave 100 percent. Finishing the season like this is fantastic. “

“As the laps went by I saw the podium but not the victory. I am showing myself to have great mental strength. Today I was on the verge of not going out. It was not easy, because the race was a fast one. I am very motivated about the future. I think we have a lot of potential ”.

“It will be difficult next year, we will have to be constant. We can fight for great things. It’s a shame that he’s leaving. Okay (Rossi), I’ve been the first person to give him a hug. His legacy is impossible to match ”, commented Jorge Martín.

The Grand Prix of the Valencian Community also said goodbye to Valentino Rossi after 26 years in business, who was retiring after becoming not only a very champion (nine world championships) but also a global star that has made MotoGP a popular sport in the whole world. The Grand Prize was held under the “hashtag” #GrazieVale. And yes, all fans of this sport must thank “The Doctor”, a great on the track and off it. We think that no one will be able to fill the void that it leaves because, just as there was only one Ángel Nieto, there will only be one Valentino Rossi.

Marc Márquez and Pol Espargaró, knocked out

As we already said in its day, Marc Márquez He has missed the last two Grand Prix of the season and will not be in the Jerez test on 18 and 19 November either due to the diplopia (double vision) he suffers after falling while practicing enduro. In the third free training session of the GP of the Valencian Community, Pol Espargaro he fell to the ground at turn 13. He was transferred to the 9 de Octubre Hospital in Valencia where severe bruises were seen, especially around the thorax and abdomen, although the existence of fractures was fortunately ruled out.

On Sunday Pol was declared “unfit”, which led to the unusual fact that neither of the two Repsol Honda team riders competed in the last Grand Prix race of the season.
