Hamilton: “Russell has all the qualities to lead this team to success”

George Russell is one of the surprises of the season. The former Williams driver has shone in the early part of the championship after a quick adaptation since he took over from Valtteri Bottas last season. The young Brit finished in the top five in 10 of the starting 11 races. He has signed three podiums in Australia, Spain and Azerbaijan. All in third position.

Hamilton praised the good atmosphere that Russell has generated since joining the Brackley team in a statement to the official Formula 1 website. “George had a positive impact on the working environment. Overall, it has been a real pleasure working with him.” He has done a great job, he got great points for the team and he will continue to improve, he will continue to improve for a long time. In the general classification he leads Hamilton by 19 points (128) and in classification he has also dominated him (6-5 in favor of Russell).

Lewis believes that his teammate has not shown his full potential in Formula 1. He also believes that Mercedes is in a good place to become world champion in the future. “I definitely see that he has a lot of potential in him (to be a world champion) and he is in the right place for that as well. Russell has become a great points collector for Mercedes in this first part of the season when the team was a long way from Ferrari and Red Bull.

Hamilton has also offered his experience to help him in his progression and take Mercedes to the top. “He has all the qualities to help move this team forward and lead it to success. I hope I can be a little part of helping him progress.”
