It has always been said that a driver’s first rival in Formula 1 is his teammate. The relationship between drivers in the same garage can be tumultuous, especially if you’re fighting over important things. That could happen at Ferrari, but Carlos Sainz acknowledges that there is a great atmosphere between him and Charles Leclerc.

“Of course we have a great relationship. We get along very well and make a good pair. We spend a lot of time together, both in Maranello and on the track, and we normally have very similar opinions about many things,” the Madrid native told the Formula 1 website.

Sainz hopes that this good dynamic will continue: “He is a great guy, from whom I have learned a lot from Leclerc over the years and from whom I hope to have many years as a teammate”. The ’55′ acknowledges that this good professional relationship also carries over to the personal field: “We can have fun and play a sport. Not everything is so serious. The team also depends on our relationship, and I hope it continues to be this good because it makes everything easier.”

Carlos recognizes the work of the Monegasque within Ferrari, and even considers him a “great reference for the team”. In addition, he praises the qualities of his teammate: “Charles always makes extremely good laps in free practice and qualifying, and this year he also has a great race pace.”
