Danilo Petrucci (KTM) wrote a historic chapter yesterday in the 44 editions of the Dakar Rally. The victory has been achieved in one stage after having barely reached the category and contested only six as a cross country rider, coming almost directly from MotoGP. In fact, Petrucci becomes the first rider to compete in MotoGP and has been able to win a stage of the Dakar Rally.
The Italian, who two months ago was closing his career in the top category of speed motorcycling, had made a sensational stage finishing second, behind only Toby Price, double Dakar winner. But hours after the end of the day, a six-minute penalty for speeding penalized the Australian and gave the Italian the historic victory.
The KTM Italian is showing impressive adaptability in his still short raid career. On Tuesday he already showed what he was capable of, although a penalty (also for speeding) did not achieve the great result, yesterday Petrucci has gotten his courage and has returned to give an exhibition achieving the top of the stage.
Petrucci, with the correction after the penalty, has also won one of the tightest stages in the history of the Dakar since after more than 350 kilometers between the first and third place of the day there are barely five seconds. Distances more typical of a MotoGP race than a Dakar stage.
Classification 5th stage of the Dakar in motorcycles

2. Ross Branch (Yamaha) at 2 seconds.
3. Nacho Cornejo (Honda) at 5 seconds.

5. Toby Price (KTM) at 1:46
