SANTO DOMINGO.- Boxer Mario Levegal secured a bronze medal in the 52-kilo category and a $2,500 prize at the Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Continental Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Lavegal achieved a resounding victory (5-0) over Pablo de Jesús (Brazil) to secure the bronze medal and the prize awarded by the organizing committee.

The championship, which is endorsed by the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), awarded points to athletes to climb the world ranking, as well as distributed $17,500 among the winners of the contest. Two thousand five hundred dollars for the bronze medal winners, five thousand for the silver medal winners and ten thousand for the gold winners.

The Dominican delegation has great chances of winning other medals, as it has classified six other fighters. All are scheduled for the night card this Sunday.

The Dominicans who can secure bronze medals and their corresponding prizes are Rodrigo Marte (54 kg) who will face Ángel Palacios (Argentina), Yancarlos Pérez (57 kg) who will collide with Harvey Jhamal Antonio (USA).

In the 60 kg, Alexy de la Cruz (RD) will face Monsour Jonathan (USA); in the 63.5 kg Elvis del Castillo (RD) will fight Dennys Pérez (PUR). In the 67kg division, Manuel Burgos (RD) will face Ramírez Miguel Arias (MEX), and in the 75kg division, Sergio Moquete will fight Aguierre Martínez (MEX).

Rubén García, president of the Dominican Federation of Amateur Boxing () indicated that the delegation made the trip to Guayaquil thanks to the support provided by Minister Francisco Camacho and the Creso program directed by Felipe Vicini.
