Liam Lawson will make his Formula 1 debut in the first free practice sessions of the Belgian Grand Prix. The New Zealand driver will make his debut with the Alpha Tauri team, replacing Pierre Gasly, in the mandatory program that F1 requires of teams with their young promises.

Lawson is eighth in Formula 2 with the Carlin team with four weekends to go. The young driver has won two races and six podiums in the 20 rounds this year. He has also had four dropouts.

Last year he gained his first experience by taking part in the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi for Red Bull. Lawson thinks there is no better place than the Spa-Francorchamps track. “It will be a very exciting feeling. A historic circuit and a place where I have always loved to drive, so in a Formula 1 car it will be amazing”, he explains on the Alpha Tauri Twitter profile.
