CUAUTITLÁN IZCALLI.– Motivated by situations of violence who has lived in this municipality, Marilyn Badillo chose to train, make sport her way of life and become a boxer until she became the world boxing champion.
The 21-year-old girl is considered an example for the young people of this and other municipalities, when she managed to rise to become world boxing champion, light flyweight.
“Unfortunately we live in a society where there are still people who have a lot of resentment towards women, and I have been a victim of it,” said the champion.
In an interview with La Silla Rota, she explained that in Cuautitlán Izcalli, as in other places in the Mexico state, there is still a macho culture.
“When a woman is successful, there are those who are bothered, it makes them uncomfortable, and they want to attract attention whatever it may be, even offending, I can defend myself, but not all women can do it,” he said.
The young boxer has been attacked on two occasions by her neighbors in Cuautitlán Izcalli, and has come to file complaints that have not proceeded, since in one of the cases her attacker went to the beaten MP, and they did not believe that she had only defended herself, as she explained.
“The aggressors of women are people who have so much courage that they seek to harm, and in my case there are already twice, being the object of aggression from my own neighbors,” he said.
He asked all women who are in a situation of violence to have the wisdom, intelligence and courage to denounce their aggressors, “and resist emotionally, because when you go to report even the MP himself classifies you as a liar, you have to have strength.”
He said that persistence in preserving their dreams must be accompanied by sports practices and physical preparation, which at a certain point can be survival tools.
It recommended that to deal with circumstances of violence, there is always a way to find support in diverse groups of people who are always willing to support those who request it.
