World Council (WBC) flyweight Marlen Esparza (12-1, 1 KO) of Houston, Texas is ready to defend her crown against former champion Eva “La Ley” Guzmán (19 -1, 11 KO’s) from Maracay, Venezuela, next Saturday, August 6 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

Esparza began his boxing career at age 12 after growing up in a home that loved the sport. In May 2012, she became the first American woman to qualify to compete in the 2012 London Olympics, the first year that women’s boxing made its debut as an Olympic event. She won the bronze medal in the flyweight division.

In 2021, Esparza had a successful year, with a unanimous decision win against Ibeth “La Roca” Zamora for the WBC World Flyweight Championship.

For her part, Eva Guzmán, who was already world champion, comes to this fight after defeating her compatriot Yanetsy Gómez last November.
