MORELIA, Mich., June 27, 2022.- Michoacán reached 50 medals at the Conade 2022 National Games, after the categorical victory of boxer Santiago Barajas in his category, as well as the third place won by his partner Dorian Gutiérrez, in the final stretch of the boxing discipline. Where said sport in the entity returned to the first place on the podium, after several years of absence.

With a unanimous decision victory in the Minimum Weight 46-48 kilograms category, the boxer from the municipality of Sahuayo, Santiago Barajas, defeated Mauricio Ruiz from Nuevo León, in the ring installed at the María del Rosario Espinoza Gymnasium in Culiacán, Sinaloa, after six days of intense competition.

“I feel very proud of myself, because it was an important effort to get to the last fight. A very strong level, a very complicated final in which, despite everything, I take the gold dedicated to my parents, my whole family, my coach and the Sahuayo Boxing Club”, said the outstanding athlete who put a point final to three editions without a gold medal for the discipline.

Likewise, the native of Pátzcuaro, Dorian Gutiérrez, kept the bronze when he fell in the semifinal against Juan Diego Flores (Aguascalientes) in the Welterweight division in 66 kilograms.

With these results, Michoacán registers 50 medals in the greatest amateur sports festival in our country, with 14 gold, 11 silver and 25 bronze. The activities continue with the Purépecha participation in beach volleyball with the classification of the three women’s pairs to the final phase in La Paz, Baja California Sur, and the athletics delegation based in Hermosillo, Sonora.
