Australian Jack Miller (Ducati Desmosedici GP22) dominated the first free practice session of the MotoGP German Grand Prix from start to finish at the Sachsenring circuit, ahead of his teammate, Italian Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, and of the world leader, the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR M 1).

Miller was the first and last reference with his Ducati Desmosedici GP22 when he lapped in 1:21.479, just 78 thousandths of a second faster than the reigning world champion, Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha YZR M1), making it clear that, although the Next season he will be a pilot for the Austrian brand KTM, he will have the support of his current Italian team until the end of the season.
