Not only Marc Márquez reappears in the Aragón GP. So does Joan Mir, although in his case after only one sick appointment, the one in Misano two weeks ago. He crushed his ankle in his crash in Austria and at MotorLand he received the medical OK, among other things, showing that he could jump on one foot. In his case there were two very clear informative points, that of his physical condition and that of his signing for Repsol Honda for the next two seasons, something that they do not allow him to talk about openly, by contract with Suzuki, but what he has left an interesting comment.

About his health, he says: “They made me run on one leg in a room and my foot is a little swollen. I feel fine, but I’m not 100%. I know I’m going to have ailments, but that’s what it is this weekend, because I didn’t want to miss two races. The key this weekend will be to recover well, not to swell, ice… and from here on, try to put myself in the right place in FP1, after having missed a race and the Misano test”.

From there, the Honda issue: “I am very happy with the announcement because after so many races that you asked me about my future, you won’t ask me anymore. (Laughter). I don’t arrive at Honda’s best moment, but we know what factory it is and the potential they have. Arriving in this way gives it much more interest than if you arrived at good times as they have had in the past. I will try to finish the season in the best way with Suzuki and then we have a very nice challenge”.

With whom he has already spoken is with his future partner. “We coincided training here in Aragón, that I was testing the foot. And he welcomed me”, he assures before asking if, looking at the precedents, the Honda challenge scares or motivates. To which he replies: “Motivate. Of course. The difficulty of the challenge is what makes it interesting. When we arrived at Suzuki it was a long-term project, with a view to the future and we carried it out. So I’m here to take this challenge forward and why we can’t achieve good results with them”.

On what it means for a rider to wear colors like those of the Repsol Honda, he lets it slip that he still can’t say everything he would like: “Blue is very pretty. (Laughter). I’ll say it when the time comes, because I’m not allowed by contract to talk much about the Honda issue, nor do I think it’s ethically correct”. But we insist with one more question about the golden wing: Who has to contribute more to whom in this new relationship with Honda? His answer: “Anything that Márquez can improve this year is going to be good for me. Then when I arrive we will think about whether something needs to be changed”. And a detail about the fact of sharing a brand with Álex Rins: “Who has chosen first? (laughs). It will be curious to have Álex as a partner next year. I am happy because I know how he drives and I imagine that the data is also shared”.

2023 aside, the 2020 MotoGP champion has six races ahead of him in which he has to motivate himself in any way. “It’s difficult, because I’ve had a difficult year and the injury was difficult, because he made me stop suddenly. But I also think that with this injury it has made me more hungry to get here and do well. He has given me the motivation I needed, because we are not in the best moment, neither for Suzuki nor for me. I am especially excited to get good results until the end of the year”, says the Mallorcan.

That injury, seeing Austria fall, could well have been more serious. He knows it: “It was a complicated fall. I showed it to the doctor and he told me, ‘Let me look at the MRI again, maybe I’m missing something.’ It was a terrible fall and I did little to my foot. These falls are the ones you remember later. Worse than Brno? No, no… the one in Brno.” And a curiosity, what do you think when he goes through the air in a circumstance like this: “You don’t have time to think about anything. When I landed I realized that I had broken my leg, but I thought it was a tibia and fibula. Thank God it’s not such a serious injury. I have two torn ligaments, but they are the small ones. The injury is a bit difficult”.

And in terms of the title, about the fight Quartararo, Bagnaia and Espargaró had a slip: “I wouldn’t prefer any of the two… or three. I see how Pecco is coming in these last races and Quartararo is always there, he is going to have to manage and cut this streak, because if the red ones don’t have the chance to win. As for Aleix, he hasn’t done so well in these last few races, although they were circuits that weren’t entirely favorable”.
