Lwe arrived at the most glamorous race on the entire Formula 1 calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix, a circuit that brings bittersweet memories to Mexican driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Prez.
Having just landed at the Grand Circus in 2011, Checo arrived in Monaco with just five races under his belt and Monaco marked perhaps the worst moment of the Aztec throughout his stay in F1.
In the qualifying session that year, Prez lost control at the exit of the tunnel and the car was thrown against the protection barrier, causing one of the most tense moments in the new millennium.
The then Sauber driver immediately went to hospital, where it was confirmed that he suffered a concussion and a severe bruise on his thigh, which prevented him from taking part in the race.
Five years later, in 2016, Sergio made a real race, finishing in third place, adding the sixth podium in his career in the highest category.
That of 2016 has been the only time that the Red Bull driver has been able to get on the podium in the principality, something to look for to repeat this weekend, now with a leading team.
