Presentation of the 1st Motril City Boxing Evening (EL FARO)
The Councilor for Sports of the Motril City Council, Daniel Ortega, together with Antonio Escámez, Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, Environment and Agriculture, Francisco Antúnez “El Romo” and Edwin Murillo and Alberto García, representatives of the boxers, presented today the programming of the I Evening of Boxing City of Motril that will take place on Saturday, August 6 at 9:30 p.m. in the Municipal Sports Pavilion of Motril.
Daniel Ortega has been satisfied with the Boxing Evening, since “boxing was a widely practiced sport in Motril, but unfortunately it disappeared for years; and we have the intention and hope that it will regain the number of fans it once had in our city”.
For his part, the honoree Francisco Antúnez “El Romo” or also known by the people of Motril as “el Lieutenant” has reviewed his boxing career and the history of boxing in Motril, in which he has remembered figures such as the then known as “el Vasco”, who introduced boxing in Motril, or “the Tarzan”, who will also be honored posthumously on Saturday.
The Evening is made up of eight amateur fights in which several boxers from different Andalusian clubs will participate. It will also have a special guest: Carlos «Ratón» Pérez from Seville, nothing more and nothing less than the current champion of Spain in lightweight. Tickets can be purchased at the “El Paso” Bar, at the “Aladino” Café Bar and at the “La Carbonería” Grill Bar by making a donation of €10 to benefit the Jesús Abandonado Foundation. For its part, a contact telephone number has also been enabled for the acquisition of tickets: 669 44 01 43.
Finally, the representatives of some of the boxers who will compete in the Evening, the Panamanian champion Edwin Murillo and the Cuban Alberto García, (both former professional boxers with a great career behind them and who are now dedicated to teaching this sport ) wanted to thank the Motril City Council and express their wish that the I Motril City Boxing Evening be accompanied by many more editions.
Finally, Antonio Escámez has invited “all Motrileños to enjoy this Saturday a sport that does not have as much prominence as it deserves in Motril”, emphasizing that all the benefits will have a charitable purpose.
