In less than two weeks, one of the most anticipated events of each year in the NBA will be held, the Draft. The 2022 edition aims to be one of the most talented in recent years. The Orlando Magic was the big winner of the lottery after taking the No. 1 pick. However, the Florida franchise will not be the only one with the pressure of getting their selection right.

The have a great opportunity to enhance their reconstruction process to once again be one of the main contenders for the championship ring in the future. The Texas franchise has pick No. 9. The predictions of the greatest Draft experts indicate that the team led by Gregg Popovich will have many options to get one of the greatest talents at that point.

But what should San Antonio look for in the Draft? Considering Popovich’s current roster, there are three things above the rest that the franchise will need to focus on on the night they have to make their choice final.

Option 1: A long range shooter

The Spurs don’t stand out for being one of the most threatening teams from the perimeter. Perhaps their biggest 3-point expert is Doug McDermott, followed by Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell. Right now it doesn’t seem to be enough to compete.

Option 2: Depth at center position

Actually, Jakob Poeltl is the only reliable five San Antonio has on the roster. If it is not for the Draft, the Texas franchise will have to look for a incorporation in that position through Free Agency 2022. But with so many options in the Draft (Jalen Duren, Walker Kessler, Mark Williams…) it will be hard to resist waiting for the transfer market.

Option 3: A second version of Dejounte Murray

Aside from Murray, the San Antonio Spurs don’t have playmakers who can both drive dangerously to the basket. The team needs someone to help Dejounte break down opposing defenses. A player with a quick and cunning first step to get past defenses with ease. The best option in the Draft would be Jaden Ivey.
