Ni LeBron, not Durant, not Doncic … coronavirus vaccines they have become the true stars of the preseason in the NBA. The controversy arisen by players like Kyrie Irving, Bradley Beal or Andrew Wiggins who have chosen not to receive their dose, has been fueled by the league itself by publishing its manual of sanitary protocols for the season.

The protocol dictates guidelines that will require unvaccinated players to be under many of the same restrictions as the previous season. By cons, vaccinated players will have fewer restrictions like, for example, not having to undergo daily tests.

Vaccinated players and team personnel will need to be evaluated only when symptomatic, have had close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19 or a member of the team medical staff or a League doctor requires it.

Social restrictions for the unvaccinated

Unvaccinated players, for their part, must undergo Daily tryouts before entering team facilities, participating in team-organized activities, or interacting with other players.

They will also have to live under a strict set of rules such as not being able to eat and dine in the same room as their vaccinated companions. Unvaccinated players should also stay at home and at the team hotel on the road, with the only exceptions of team activities.

They are also not allowed to go to restaurants, bars, clubs, entertainment venues, or large indoor gatherings., and can only interact with people who are not family members or with a “limited number of people.” And they will have to change at separate lockers from vaccinated players. They will also have to spend a seven-day quarantine if they come in contact with a positive.

Strict measures with which the NBA tries to ‘convince’ those players who have not been vaccinated to receive their dose and thus minimize the risks for the new season.
