The recently concluded National Boxing Series took the first step in the application at the national level of a new incentive formula for boxers, by awarding cash to the best teams and the most outstanding individuals.

It is no secret to anyone that economic shortages are the main reason for desertions that occur in Cuban sports in general, and boxing in particular, so any step taken in this direction is beneficial.

The announcement of the premiere of the Domadores de Cuba as professionals, scheduled for next May 20 (although weight categories or rivals have not yet been defined) is an important stimulus for our main figures, but we must also think about the reserve, because there will be an opportunity to get on the blackboard for everyone.

That is why what was approved for the National Series is of greater importance, when the Cuban Federation reported that the winners of first place, in this case Camagüey, would receive a total of 43,900 Cuban pesos (CUP), to be distributed among boxers and the technical group of the way they consider internally.

In the same way, the second (Havana) deserved 35 thousand 500 CUP, and Guantánamo, occupying the third seat, 25 thousand 500 CUP Likewise, an extra amount of two thousand CUP was destined for whoever was considered the Most Technical Boxer of those three collective.

Also individually, it was announced that the most technical fighter in the fight and the protagonists of the best combat would be awarded, with which there were several participants who received payments.

The new policy, according to the Federation, will also be applied in the upcoming Playa Girón National Tournament, scheduled for June, so it is a methodology that is here to stay.

Obviously, all this also has a significant influence on the good performance of the athletes, since they all want to stand out to aspire to the prizes and show their best skills to the federations and coaches to be included in the Tamers franchise.

We all know that the amounts we are talking about cannot even remotely compete with what an elite fighter in the world could earn, but at least it will contribute so that those below do not feel forgotten.

Nor will it be the panacea that will eliminate desertions, because sometimes it is disappointments and misunderstandings that fill an athlete’s cup, but the disbursement of the national budget shows that the matter not only worries, but also occupies the highest authorities.
