Panama Golf Association presents novelties for the 2023 season of the Junior Tour

The Panama Golf Association (APAGOLF) announced important changes to the way of carrying out the Junior Tour – amateur tour for young golfers bet

The Panama Golf Association (APAGOLF) announced important changes to the way of carrying out the Junior Tour – amateur tour for young golfers between 5 and 18 years old – with the sole interest of improving the experience and preparation of junior golfers, increasing participation levels, and consolidating the different qualifying processes for international tournaments such as the IMG Academy Junior World Championship, Optimist, Junior Tour by Under Armor and US Kids.

The 2023 season of the Junior Tour will begin on December 10 and 11, 2022, in order to join the US KIDS season; while El Isthmian Junior will take place on December 26, 27 and 28 at Tucán Country Club & Resort, Panama Golf Club and Santa María Golf, but will continue to be part of the 2022 Junior Tour.

Among the most important changes, for the next season, US KIDS GOLF stands out, in which a strategic alliance has been undertaken with US KIDS GOLF so that the official calendar of the JUNIOR TOUR 2023 includes the tournaments of the US KIDS Local Tour Panama

In addition, the US KIDS Local Tour Panama tournaments will be held on the dates of the Junior Tour, which are usually 2 (two) days with 36 holes of play, and will count for US KIDS purposes as 2 separate tournaments (Saturday and Sunday ), being at the same time counted as only 1 JUNIOR TOUR tournament. Junior golfers interested in representing Panama in the OPTIMIST, IMG ACADEMY and JUNIOR TOUR by Under Armor must complete the 36 holes (Saturday and Sunday) on the dates of the Junior Tour.

For the WAGR – Junior Tour, three official dates were established in the 2023 season for junior golfers (men and women) between the ages of 13 and 18. Incorporating as a novelty, the possibility that they can be played mixed and the ladies can thus access points within the WAGR.

In this sense, the Junior Tour became in 2022 a stepping stone so that a new crop of young golf talents from Panama could participate in the different international tournaments.

“We are very pleased that new talents are participating in high-level competitions. However, it is important that the Junior Tour is attractive to our junior athletes. Therefore, we have undertaken these changes in the interest of increasing participation and improving their preparation. “, said Jean Pierre de Roux, president of APAGOLF.

Among the tournaments in which Panama was present internationally in 2022, the IMG Academy Junior World Championship, the Optimist International Junior Golf Championship and The Junior Tour Powered by Under Armour, all in the United States, stand out.
