The Italian Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia (Ducati Desmosedici GP22), pulverized the record of the German Sachsenring circuit by being the first to drop below one minute and twenty seconds on several occasions, to establish a new absolute record in 1:19.765, with up to one total of five pilots who rolled in that same second.

Bagnaia mounted soft tires fifteen minutes from the end of the session and in two consecutive sessions ended up lowering the circuit record and beating the Spanish Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia RS-GP), who was the first “fast” reference in the category in that last phase of the session and the first to break the previous MotoGP record on this track.
