MEXICO CITY, December 14 (EL UNIVERSAL) .- Changing the history of amateur boxing in the northern part of the State of Mexico is the objective of a group of coaches who will carry out the first edition of the “Promises of Boxing” tournament, in which they will participate an approximate 200 fighters from around 50 different gyms.

With headquarters in Ecatepec, Coacalco and Tultitlán, the organizer, Enrique Romero, along with his team made up of Mario Moreno, Elías Ramírez and Guadalupe Merino, seek to hold a championship that leaves a mark so that it continues to be held each year, that the power of convocation increase and thus help the formation of future champions.

That is why they approached the World Boxing Council to seek its endorsement so that said body gives it formality and that it be considered one of the most important tournaments in the Mexican Republic.

The “Promises of Boxing” tournament will take place every weekend in January with different venues, starting on the 9th in Tultitlán, State of Mexico, later it goes to Coacalco, then in Ecatepec, to return again to Tultitlán, where the final will be held.

The tournament seeks to include all lovers of boxing in different categories, from 10 years to 39 years. In addition, it will have different classifications such as “Rookies”, which ranges from zero to eight fights. And the “Classifieds”, which are the boxers who have nine or more fights.

The “War of the Zetas” between Carlos Zárate and Alfonso Zamora is one of the battles that remained in the history of boxing, not only Mexican, but also international. That is why one of the iconic images that this fight gave is the main image of the tournament, which from January 2022 will begin to make history in amateur boxing in the country.
