Only the England coach Sarina Wiegman broke the abuse of Spanish football in the prizes awarded by UEFA at the Champions League draw gala. It was an exception in the midst of the awards received by Alexia Putellas, Karim Benzema and Carlo Ancelotti, winners of a day in which the Spanish teams learned the names of their rivals in the group stage of the continental competition.

While Weigman won the trophy for ‘UEFA Coach of the Year’, Ancelotti took the award for best coach and Putellas and Benzema for best female and male player, respectively. Under the umbrella of Barcelona and Real Madrid, the three won a gala that made it clear to the Premier League that the fight for hegemony of the best world football is not over yet.
