Remy Gardner had his first official presentation as a MotoGP rider yesterday, and the Moto2 world champion recalled the day he signed his contract with Tech3. The pilot also recalled the complicated phases he went through to reach the top of motorcycling, and how these made him grow mentally.

“The day they offered me [el contrato] it was very exciting to sign it. I knew more or less what was going to happen, but I remember in Jerez, after the race, I think Jens sat me down and said: “We want to go to first class”, and obviously I said: “Yes, of course! » You know, it’s my dream.” began by saying the Australian, who was later very happy to put “black on white”:

– I remember driving to the airport from Jerez with the music loud and very excited in the car, it was definitely an exciting moment and a dream come true.

However, Gardner did not make an easy climb and had to build everything he achieved on his wrist: “I got really good results in the first few races and I thought, ‘Okay, I have a base to work with here.’ But you never think about what’s going to happen until it actually happens. It was crazy. There’s a long list, a really long list [de desafíos] and they were also difficult years for me. I had to work hard on myself and improve my mental state on the bike. Physically I have always felt very good, but I have had some injuries in the past.

These years, when injuries were a constant: “When I broke both my legs and overextended myself, it gave me a lot of mental strength to get out of such a big injury and come back quickly. It was a very big mental problem to develop my mental strength. I had other problems where I couldn’t control myself during the race and where I fell a lot. Some tough years but without them I wouldn’t have gained that experience to take home the championship last year.”
