Northern Ireland’s made 10 birdies in a day of 62 shots (-8) to win the PGA Canadian Open for the second time in his career on Sunday, after winning it in 2019.

MCilroy survived some tense moments in the last nine holes, closing with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to seal the victory with a total of 261 hits (-19).

American Tony Finau, who started the day tied for the lead, scored his sixth birdie of the day on the 18th hole for a 64 (-6) card, which placed him only second with 263 (-17).

The best placed Latin American player was the Colombian Sebastián Muñoz in 25th place with 275 hits (-5), followed by the Argentine Emiliano Grillo in 28th with 276 hits (-4).

More distant were the Mexican Carlos Ortiz with 279 (-1) in 46 and the Venezuelan Jhonattan Vegas with 281 (+1) in 53. The Spanish Rafa Cabrera Bello finished with 285 (+5) in 64.

Colombian Camilo Villegas was the only Latin American who did not make the cut on the second day.
