The student-athlete from the Eugenio Guerra Cruz Specialized School in Sports, William Colón, secured a bronze medal in the 57-kilogram division on Friday as part of the competition for the first Junior Pan American Games to be held in Colombia.
The boxer defeated Mexican Brandon Mejía by unanimous decision and the fight for the pass to the final of the division will be held on Monday, when the American Julius Ballo is measured, at the Luis Ignacio Álvarez Coliseum in Buga, Colombia.
For his part, boxer Ángel Llanos Pérez was eliminated in the first round of 69 kilos. The tall fighter fell by unanimous decision, 5-0, to American Quincey Williams.
The first and only woman to compete for Puerto Rico in the 2021 Cali-Valle boxing, Gracemarie Quiles, was active in the 48-51 kg category.
The natural athlete from Hormigueros lost via unanimous decision against the Argentine Mara Emilia Andrea Fabián.
