After pleading guilty to four counts, three of assault with a deadly weapon and one of carrying a knife, the son of NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Adam Abdul-Jabbar, was sentenced to six months in prison.
According to reports from the Orange County, California district attorney’s office, the 29-year-old stabbed a 60-year-old neighbor after having an argument over Abdul-Jabbar not picking up his roommate’s trash cans. The victim, the office noted, also suffered a skull fracture and nearly died of blood loss after collapsing outside the emergency room.

Adam Abdul-Jabbar accepted a plea deal from a judge. Local media point out that the sentence was suspended until January 7 so that he can request the house arrest measure. However, probation officers have yet to release an opinion. The prosecution, for its part, refused to be offered the possibility of assuming guilt, and allegedly asked that he be sentenced to seven years in prison.
“This slap on the wrist is an absolute judicial error. This man nearly bled to death in front of the emergency room doors after being stabbed so violently over and over again that he fractured his skull. We believe that the total disregard for human life in a litter dispute is so egregious that it justifies the prison sentence, ”District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a statement after sentencing.
