The Community of Madrid organizes a therapeutic football course for groups with neurological disorders and intellectual disabilities

The Ministers of Family, Youth and Social Policy, Concepción Dancausa, and of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, today presented the second edition that develops its own training methodology, prepared by professionals from both associations, and which aims to improve the functional indicators of minors with intellectual disabilities and neurological disorders. The event was also attended by the president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo; the president of the Fundación Querer, Pilar García de la Granja, and the dean of the Faculty of Health of the University of La Rioja, Octavio Corral.

The initiative, which will be held from next October, is aimed at Physical Education teachers, coaches, teachers with a specialty in Special Education, psychologists, pedagogues, educational managers and all those who work with people with intellectual disabilities. It will have a duration of 30 teaching hours, distributed in 8 weeks and, although the classes will be on-line, there will also be face-to-face practical sessions. The qualification will be made based on the participation in the lessons, the quality of the written works and the practical deliveries.

As it is a project for disseminating the values ​​of sport with an impact on improving care for minors and people with disabilities, the Ministries of Culture, Tourism and Sport and of Family, Youth and Social Policy contribute 30,000 euros for the teachers’ fees, the dissemination and marketing of the course and the granting of scholarships for 50 students.

The ultimate goal of this program is to promote the inclusion of children with disabilities through sports practice, advancing their motor skills, which increases their skills and abilities for daily life. With this adapted training, football is highly effective for concentration, coordination and language, allowing you to develop your full potential, increase your relationship with the environment and promote social inclusion.
